The garbage bin has already been removed to make way for the planting of the flowers in this spot.

In our ongoing efforts to create a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful environment, we are pleased to announce the removal of the garbage skip located at the front of Bellefield High School.

For quite some time, this bin has been a source of concern for both students and community members. It has become unsightly, a breeding ground for rodents, and is often misused, contributing more to the problem than the solution. The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is giving their support to this transformation. Notably, NSWMA trucks do service our area, however, there are inconsistencies in collection times that have led to frequent overflows.

Instead of the skip, we will be introducing a flower bed and garden space. This green area will not only uplift the appearance of the school’s entrance, but also serve as a small symbol of the cleaner, greener community we’re striving to build.

With that being said, here are some tips on waste management and garbage disposal to help you play your part in keeping our home clean.

Let's Talk Waste Management

We can all play a part in better waste management, even with limited resources and delayed collections. Here are 5 simple tips to help you manage your waste more effectively:

  1. Reduce Before You Throw

Buy only what you need, and avoid items with excessive packaging.

  2. Reuse Where Possible

Use containers, jars, and bags multiple times before tossing them.

  3. Separate Organic Waste

Keep food scraps and garden waste separate as these can be composted at home and used as fertilizer or mulch in gardens or farms.

  4. Store Waste Properly

Keep garbage in closed bins or containers to prevent pests and reduce odors.

  5. Schedule Around Collection Days

Try to put out garbage as close to collection day as possible to avoid buildup.

Garbage Disposal Tips

Even when the garbage truck doesn’t come on time, here are 5 ways to be more responsible with how we dispose of waste:

  1. Don’t Dump in Public Spaces

Resist the urge to leave waste in parks, roadsides, or near schools.

  2. Bag It Securely

Tie your garbage bags properly to prevent spillage and access by animals.

  3. Keep Recyclables Separate

Even if formal recycling isn't available, separating bottles, cans, and paper makes future collection easier.

  4. Keep Metals Separate

Metals and other heavy objects should not be placed with regular household waste as these items may cause damage to the compactor units. Special arrangements must be made with our regional offices or any other registered waste hauler for the collection of bulky waste.

  5. Avoid Burning Waste

Burning garbage can release toxic fumes. Store it safely until it can be picked up.

  6. Educate Others

Help neighbors and children understand proper disposal methods and why they matter.

It starts with all of us and we're excited about this change.

Let's work together to keep Bellefield Division clean, safe, and beautiful.
